Online doctor, Paris
See a Doctor Online While You’re in Paris.
Yes, you can see a doctor online while you’re visiting Paris. Pomodoc connects you by video with an English-speaking doctor licensed to treat you in France, for a fixed €40, from your hotel or wherever you are staying. Paris also has three things France in general does not: a pharmacy open somewhere every night — the official MonPharmacien service from the regional health agency lists which one; SOS Médecins Grand Paris, which sends a doctor to your address 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, on 3624; and SOS Médecins walk-in medical centres in several arrondissements. For a pharmacist's advice, start at the pharmacy. In a medical emergency call 15, or 112 from any phone.
Paris is not short of doctors. The hard part at 10pm in an unfamiliar arrondissement is knowing which of the routes in front of you fits what you have — and doing it in English.

Medical Care in English, Anywhere in Paris
Finding a doctor in a big city is rarely the problem; finding the right route for what you have, tonight, in English, is. Paris has pharmacies on most corners, a home-visit service that runs all night, hospital emergency departments, and now video.
With Pomodoc, you can speak directly with an English-speaking doctor wherever you are in Paris — a hotel in the 8th, a flat in Belleville, a hostel near the Gare du Nord. Describe your symptoms, ask questions and understand your next steps without crossing the city first.
- Consult securely by video
- Avoid unnecessary travel and waiting rooms
- Get clear guidance about your symptoms and treatment
- Access care while travelling, living or working in Paris
Pharmacy, SOS Médecins, Urgences, or Video?
Paris gives you more routes than most cities. Here is what each is for, so you can pick the right one without guessing.
What the city already offers
- a pharmacist who advises on minor illness, and since June 2024 may treat a small number of conditions without a prescription — including simple cystitis, after a rapid test and within limits
- a pharmacy open at night: MonPharmacien (monpharmacien-idf.fr), the official ARS Île-de-France service, shows which one, and in Paris night pharmacies are directly accessible
- SOS Médecins Grand Paris on 3624: a doctor to your address, 24h/24 and 7j/7, or a walk-in consultation at one of their medical centres, listed on their site
- 15 for the SAMU in a medical emergency, or 112 from any phone; the SAMU decides how to respond
Sometimes the pharmacy two streets away can handle it — and a doctor can tell you whether that is the case here. If you need a doctor at your bedside, SOS Médecins is built for exactly that. Both are in French.
A video consultation instead gives you
- a doctor's judgement on whether you need any of the above tonight, or can wait
- the whole conversation in English, from wherever you are staying
- a consultation you can start now, without a waiting room
- a prescription where it is clinically appropriate and local rules permit, valid at a Paris pharmacy
Pomodoc connects you with an English-speaking doctor by video, licensed to treat you in France, for €40 per consultation. Fixed price, no surprises.
The honest version: a lot of Paris problems end at a pharmacy counter. What a video consultation adds is knowing that before you go looking — and in English.
Your consultation runs on Air Doctor's ISO‑certified platform (ISO/IEC 27001 & ISO 27799 for health data). See our security & certifications.

Why Use Pomodoc in Paris?
Explain it in English
SOS Médecins, the pharmacy and the SAMU all run in French. A consultation with us is a conversation in English.
Keep the day you came for
A morning in a waiting room is a morning not in Paris. A consultation happens where you already are.
Know which route you actually need
Pharmacy, home visit, emergency department or nothing: a doctor can tell you which, before you commit a night to the wrong one.
Understand what to do next
A doctor can help you decide whether you need treatment, a prescription or an in-person appointment.
Travellers who needed a doctor abroad

More About Seeing a Doctor in Paris
The pharmacy first, and the pharmacy at night
French pharmacists advise on minor illness as part of the job, and since June 2024 a trained pharmacist may dispense treatment for a small number of conditions without a prescription, within limits — for simple cystitis, only after a positive rapid test. For a great deal of holiday illness that is the whole answer.
At night, Île-de-France has an official system for finding the open pharmacy: MonPharmacien, a site and app produced by the regional health agency (ARS Île-de-France) with the regional pharmacists' union. In Paris the night pharmacies are directly accessible; elsewhere in the region the police station gives you the address. The national 3237 line does the same job by phone.
SOS Médecins: a doctor to your address, all night
SOS Médecins Grand Paris is the city's home-visit service: general practitioners who handle medical emergencies and unscheduled general medicine, 24h/24 and 7j/7, at your home, hotel or workplace across Paris and most of the 92, 93 and 94 départements. The number is 3624, and there is an online request form. They also run walk-in medical centres in several arrondissements; their site lists the current addresses and opening hours.
It is the route when you need a doctor physically present and cannot or should not travel. It runs in French, and there can be a wait depending on demand. For the question that comes before it — do I need a doctor here at all, tonight? — a video consultation is faster and in English.
Hospital emergency departments
Paris has many hospital emergency departments (urgences). For a life-threatening emergency the right call is 15: the SAMU decides whether to send an ambulance and where, which is better than guessing at the nearest hospital. For anything less than that, an urgences waiting room is usually the slowest route to the wrong kind of care.
If a doctor on a video consultation thinks you need urgences, you will be told so, and told to call 15 rather than to take a taxi.
Words that help at the counter
| In French | What it means |
|---|---|
| la pharmacie de garde | the duty pharmacy, open out of hours |
| un médecin de garde | an on-call doctor |
| une visite à domicile | a home visit |
| les urgences | the emergency department |
| une ordonnance | a prescription |
| J'ai besoin d'un médecin qui parle anglais. | I need a doctor who speaks English. |
| Parlez-vous anglais ? | Do you speak English? |
Pharmacie de garde is what to look for on a pharmacy door after hours; SOS Médecins on 3624 is the phrase for a doctor to come to you.
Good things to know.
Can I see a doctor online while visiting Paris?
Yes. Pomodoc connects you by video with an English-speaking doctor licensed to treat you in France, for a fixed €40, from your hotel or wherever you are staying in the city. You do not need a carte vitale or French insurance. It is for suitable non-emergency concerns, and the doctor can also tell you whether you need to be seen in person. In an emergency call 15, or 112 from any phone.
How do I find a pharmacy open at night in Paris?
Use MonPharmacien (monpharmacien-idf.fr or the app), the official service from ARS Île-de-France and the regional pharmacists' union: it shows the pharmacy open now, by day, night, Sunday or public holiday, and the route to it. In Paris night pharmacies are directly accessible. The national 3237 line gives the same information by phone.
What if I need to be seen in person in Paris?
SOS Médecins Grand Paris sends general practitioners to your address, including a hotel, 24h/24 and 7j/7 across Paris and most of the 92, 93 and 94 départements, on 3624 or via their online form. It runs in French and there can be a wait. If you are not sure you need to be seen in person at all, a video consultation can answer that first, in English.
Can a Paris pharmacy give me antibiotics without a prescription?
For a small number of conditions, since June 2024, and only within limits. For simple cystitis, a trained pharmacist can dispense antibiotics without a prescription only after a positive rapid test; a negative test means they cannot. Our UTI-in-France guide sets out the detail. For everything else, you need a doctor, and a video doctor licensed in France can prescribe where clinically appropriate and local rules permit.
When should I call 15 instead of anything else?
For a medical emergency: chest pain, difficulty breathing, sudden weakness or confusion, heavy bleeding, or someone who will not wake properly. 15 reaches the SAMU, which decides how to respond and where to send you. 112 works from any phone in the EU and reaches the same services. A video consultation is not the route for any of those.
Do I need a carte vitale or French insurance to see a doctor in Paris?
Not for a Pomodoc consultation: you pay €40 per consultation directly, it is a fixed price, and no French registration or insurance is involved. A pharmacy will sell you what it can over the counter; SOS Médecins and hospital care have their own arrangements, and travel insurance is what covers you for those.
How much does a Pomodoc video consultation cost?
€40 is the fixed price of the video consultation with a doctor. It includes the consultation and, where clinically appropriate and local rules permit, a prescription. Medication you buy at a pharmacy, and any in-person care you go on to need, are separate. There is no subscription and no booking fee.
When is a video consultation not the right call in Paris?
Not in an emergency — chest pain, difficulty breathing, sudden weakness or confusion, heavy bleeding, or someone who will not wake properly: call 15, or 112. And not when a doctor needs to examine you: if that is what your symptoms need, SOS Médecins can come to you, and the useful outcome of a video call is being told so early.
