Pomodoc

Online doctor

Speak to a Doctor While You Travel By video, for a fixed €40.

Being unwell away from home is mostly a problem of not knowing: not knowing whether this needs a doctor, not knowing which local service to use, and not knowing what it will cost before you commit. Pomodoc connects you by video with a doctor licensed to treat you where you are, so you can answer the first question before you have to deal with the other two.

It is not an emergency service and it is not travel insurance. It is a conversation with a doctor, at a price you can see first.

What a video consultation is good for

Most of a medical assessment is a conversation. What is happening, when it started, what makes it worse, what else has changed — a doctor can take all of that as well by video as in a waiting room, and anything visible works too, which is why rashes and eyes suit it particularly well.

What it cannot do is examine you. No camera looks inside an ear, takes a swab, presses on an abdomen or arranges a scan. So the honest description of a consultation is that it settles the decision rather than always settling the illness: whether this is one to manage where you are, what to watch for, and whether you need to be seen in person — which is a genuinely useful thing to know before you spend an evening finding a clinic in a city you do not know.

A doctor may issue a prescription where it is clinically appropriate and local rules permit. It is not guaranteed for every consultation, some medicines cannot be prescribed by video at all, and medication you buy at a pharmacy is not included in the €40. When you are charged and what the price includes are set out on what a consultation costs.

Questions

Good things to know.

What is an online doctor consultation?

A video appointment with a doctor licensed to treat you in the country you are currently in. You describe what is happening, the doctor takes a history and asks questions, and you get advice on what to do next — including, where it is clinically appropriate and local rules permit, a prescription. With Pomodoc it costs a fixed €40 per consultation.

Do I need insurance to speak to a doctor?

No. There is no policy number to find, no assistance line to call first and no local registration needed. You request a consultation and pay a fixed €40 by card. Separately, FCDO advises travellers to hold appropriate travel insurance, because a consultation is not cover for hospital treatment, an operation or a flight home.

What can a doctor actually assess by video?

Most of a medical assessment is a history — what is happening, when it started, what makes it worse, what else has changed — and that works as well down a video call as in a waiting room. Anything visible works too, which is why rashes and eyes suit video particularly well. What a doctor cannot do by video is examine you, look inside an ear, take a swab or arrange a test, so conditions that need any of those need an in-person appointment.

When should I not use a video consultation?

Not in an emergency. Chest pain, difficulty breathing, sudden weakness or confusion, heavy bleeding, a serious injury or someone who will not wake properly all need the local emergency number — 112 across the EU, and each of our country guides gives the local one. It is also the wrong tool when a doctor needs to examine you; if that is what your symptoms need, being told so early is the useful outcome of the call.

How much does it cost?

€40 for a video consultation with a doctor. Fixed price. No surprises. It includes the consultation and, where clinically appropriate and local rules permit, a prescription. Medication you buy at a pharmacy, and any in-person care you go on to need, are separate. There is no subscription and no booking fee.

Which countries can I use it in?

Pomodoc is available in 139 countries. The country guides below cover the destinations we have written local pathway detail for — what the pharmacy can do, what the emergency number is, when you need to be seen in person — and there are more countries served than there are guides written.

Not sure whether you need a doctor?

That is the question a consultation answers first. Speak to a doctor by video and find out what your options are.

Video consultations are for suitable non-emergency medical concerns and are not a substitute for travel insurance. In a life-threatening emergency call your local emergency number — 112 across the EU — or go to the nearest emergency department.
